What Is BAP? Why Buy BAP? Farmed Seafood
BAP -- Wholesome Seafood, Responsibly Produced.

PhotoThe Best Aquaculture Practices program certifies farms that raise shrimp, salmon, tilapia, channel catfish, Pangasius, mussels and/or other finfish and crustaceans, as well as hatcheries, feed mills and processing plants. A range of seafood in various frozen and prepared forms is now available from BAP-certified facilities. Look for the "Best Aquaculture Practices Certified" mark on packaging.
The Global Aquaculture Alliance, the global standards setter for aquaculture seafood, is currently expanding Best Aquaculture Practices certification to include standards for other aquatic species. Comprehensive new farm standards for a variety of finfish and crustacean species are currently being implemented.
The new certifications will incorporate many of the same parameters outlined in the earlier BAP standards. The guidelines for issues like habitat conservation, worker and community rights, responsible production practices and food safety are similar, regardless of species.
