The Best Aquaculture Practices standards developed by the Global Aquaculture Alliance form the basis for BAP facility certification. These key standards define the most important elements of responsible aquaculture and provide quantitative guidelines and procedures by which to evaluate adherence to those practices.
Drafted by technical committees with broad scientific, geographic and stakeholder representation, the BAP standards are more comprehensive than other standards systems. BAP outlines standards for each type of aquaculture facility, from hatchery to farm to processing plant, in four primary areas: Community, Environment, Food Safety and Traceability.
Although individual standards vary by facility type, all BAP standards address community and employee relations, conservation of biodiversity, soil and water management, and drug and chemical management.
