What Is BAP? Why Buy BAP? Farmed Seafood
WHY BUY BAP?
BAP -- Wholesome Seafood, Responsibly Produced.
www.responsibleseafood.org

PhotoSeafood raised under Best Aquaculture Practices standards is better for the environment, better for you and better for the greater global community. The standards include specific criteria that define responsible practices and food safety controls at aquaculture facilities around the world.

The BAP standards for shrimp, tilapia and channel catfish farms, for example, call for biodiversity protection, effluent limits, worker safety and strict controls on chemical use. The seafood processing plant standards reinforce existing HACCP plans and require the ability to trace products back through the supply chain to their sources. The Global Aquaculture Alliance is currently developing BAP standards for feed mills and other fish species that will reflect similar requirements.

When the "Best Aquaculture Practices Certified" mark appears on packaging, you can be sure the seafood was farmed and taken to market with care. Care for the environment, care for the community and care for keeping aquaculture sustainable -- now and into the future.
